Singular and impressive, Karlštejn Castle is a jewel of Czech architecture. You´ll be amazed by original step-like cascade of the castle buildings. Start your day trip from Prague to Karlštejn Castle from the lowest situated Well tower and Burgrave's palace, then walk up to the majestic five-floored Imperial palace and further up towards the Marian tower. And finally at the top of the headland in front of your view appears the breathtaking monumental 60m high and separately fortified Big tower with walls 4 to 7.5 metres thick and with the Chapel of the Holy Cross as a central site. The Chapel has no analogy in concept elsewhere in the world.
Karlštejn was reconstructed in the Late Gothic style and then again some works were made during Renaissance epoch, which added unique style features to the initial construction. Its present appearance is the result of the last reconstruction, which was performed in the puristic Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century.
